Prominent ears is the most common congenital deformity of the ears. It is characterized by the increased size or projection of the ears in respect to the skull, which may be due to either lack of anthelix, hypertrophy of the concha, or both.
Advantages
Prominent ear correction can:
- improve the shape, symmetry and proportion of your ears
- provide a boost to your (or your child’s) self-confidence and thus allow you to have a normal social life
- last a lifetime
Technique
Under local anesthesia remodeling of the cartilage and subsequent repositioning of the ears in their proper place are performed. The incision is placed at the back of the ear and thus is invisible. Postoperatively, the patient wears an elastic bandage for 3 days and consequently a tennis ribbon for extra ten days.
