What is coaching?

What is coaching?

Coaching is a relationship between an individual (coachee) and a coach focused on the advancement and enhancement of an individual’s personal and professional well-being and skills. A coach and coachee work together in a way that empowers a coachee to achieve a goal or set of goals.

Despite being built around open, but confidential conversations, coaching is not therapy. This interaction seeks to answer “how do I get there,” focusing on progress toward a goal or vision, rather than unpacking why they are where they are.

Coaching is objective partnership

A coach serves as an objective, non-judgemental thought partner who enables an individual to gain clarity around personal and professional goals and map a path toward the achievement of those goals.

This relationship, structured as a series of regular open-ended discussions guided by defined goals, is designed to empower an individual to reach their full potential through a process of introspection (the development of a deeper self-understanding and self-awareness) and growth (the evolution of their mindset and skills to adapt to their environment). These insightful conversations, guided by carefully crafted questions and sometimes assessments, equip an individual to be their best self today and ready to shape their future self for tomorrow.

A coaching engagement customized to you

No two human beings are identical. Where they are physically, emotionally, and in life shapes who they are and what they need and want in a given moment. Likewise, each individual coaching engagement is one of a kind – based on a coachee’s unique needs and a coach’s style.
