Mon petit Chou: an Atopos cvc initiative for young artists

Atopos cvc is an Athens-based, non-profit cultural organisation interested in the expression and adornment of the human body, by researching and initiating innovative projects of contemporary visual culture with museums, galleries and independent artists. The organization operates in an ‘atopic’ manner (the word ‘atopos’ in ancient Greek stands for that which is strange, unwonted, eccentric and unclassifiable), implementing new ideas in the form of exhibitions, publications, residencies, installations and performances.

In the past, a number of organisations and institutions have supported or co-produced Atopos productions throughout the years, such as the Benaki Museum, Robert Wilson’s Watermill Centre, ICOM (International Council of Museums), the Miyake Issey Foundation, the Fondation Cartier and the Musée d’Orsay in Paris.

Mon Petit Chou – a term of endearment in French – is an Atopos cvc initiative established in order to observe and to assist in a supportive and collaborative way the progress of a young artist from the beginning of their career. The ‘Mon Petit Choux’ included in the project are promoted and supported whereas works of theirs are included in the Atopos collection and are presented in exhibitions around the world.

Mon Petit Chou was launched with London-based, menswear designer Craig Green for whom Atopos cvc has acted as a sponsor for all his catwalk shows for London Collections Men. The second Chou in the Mon Petit Chou project is French, Paris-based, art critic and artist, “artistic critic”, Clo’e Floirat; mixing and blending different disciplines and formats, she investigates ‘Critical Drawing’ alongside ‘Critical Writing’, merging both into what she calls “Drawing Crit”.

David Marinos (an artist of Greek-Ukrainian heritage) is the third Chou of Atopos’ Mon Petit Chou project, who was invited to live and work in the headquarters of Atopos cvc in downtown Athens for a week in an attempt to explore and unfold all aspects of his cutting-edge digital vision. Works of his will be included in the upcoming Unlocked book that will present works and photographs of more than a hundred artists from around the world.
