House in Kea island by Kokkinou Kourkoulas Architects

Located on the southeast part of the island of Kea, atop a cliff in an isolated canyon, Kokkinou Kourkoulas Architects designed a house of exposed concrete between rare age-old oaks and scattered dry stones.

Composed of three identical parallel volumes, the house consists of three separate bedrooms ending in the backspace of small introverted courtyards and a canopy housing the kitchen and living room. The panoramic view from the living room resembles an open-air theatre while all movements from space to space frame characteristic parts of the landscape like a cinematic narrative. The two parallel walls of the bedroom volumes frame a static sea view. The whole concept of the house is based on these three different views of the sea and the natural landscape. The grey surfaces of the concrete structures inside-out create a neutral background and an illusion of limitless perspectives.
