“β.21” apartment in Thessaloniki by Louizi + Louzis Architects

Designed to give full access to its users to redefine it according to their own needs, β.21 is a space with no strict barriers. The space, as the architects describe, feels like “a geometry on hold”, organized so as to encourage a fluid transition between spaces.

The main elements of the apartment (bed, wardrobe, kitchen island, sofa) are independent and can be repositioned, as its free-flowing form of the floor plan allows (pre-installed electromechanical systems -to be included in potential space rearrangement scenarios-). At the entrance, a fine metallic, vivid-colored, multifunctional bookcase for the temporary placement of objects contributes to the achievement of a clear minimalistic architecture, while welcoming the visitor. Oak Quarter Cut, ceramic tiles of balancing grey, and a bathroom with sharply shaped stone features are combined with the importance of every tiny construction detail in mind. Accent lighting showcases the special qualities of the materials and changes the spaces through the alternating shadows of objects, evoking a feeling of an older residence.

In line with the demands of the modern digital era, a series of automation devices regulates, through vocal orders and optimal conditions in terms of lighting, thermal comfort, temperature, and humidity. A space that adjusts an alternative habitation prospect of full flexibility and customization to the potentially varying requirements of its users.
