Kontaxakis Architects’ office in Chania, Crete

A flat of 54 sq.m., in an apartment block of 1976 in the center of Chania, Greece, was transformed into an office with a capacity of 2-4 people to host the architecture and design practice Kontaxakis Architects. The office is divided into four areas: reception, main office, meeting room, kitchen with lunch area and a sunny terrace.

The aesthetics of Bauhaus (Le Corbusier, Mondrian, Charlotte Periand, Pierre Jeanneret, etc.) have been an important inspiration to the creative concept. Many of the pieces, such as the bookcase and the meeting table are designed according to the proportions of Modulor and the golden section. Dominant materials are black metal, American walnut and green marble, timeless materials used in modern architecture in Greece and internationally. Most of the furniture consists of original handmade pieces by local craftsmen and creators and has been designed by the firm. The goal is for the space to showcase the design philosophy of the office, which emphasizes the value of timeless design. Highlights such as the handmade stained glass divider with and Mondrian-inspired ironwork, are examples of this philosophy; in the meeting room, the central element is the handmade marble oval table made of green Rajasthan marble; In the reception, the iconic Georgette seat is welcoming the clients. The entire space creates a minimal yet warm atmosphere in which the user can work individually or in a team, be inspired, discuss, receive clients, relax. Thus the user redefines their relationship with their workplace, through a daily experience that is both pleasant and productive.
