Milena Panagiotova’s Kolonaki apartment design is a fusion of culture and style

Amidst this eclectic mix of Athens’ historic Kolonaki, Milena Panagiotova’s latest project transforms a modest 65-square-metre apartment from the 1960s into a vibrant, culturally rich retreat. Originally a product of its time, the apartment’s initial layout was a labyrinth of boxy, partitioned rooms, symptomatic of the post-war architectural trend toward functionality over style. Milena’s transformative touch began with an interior window between the kitchen and living room, enhancing light flow and openness. She introduced shades of green to the living room ceiling and bedroom walls, creating depth and a sense of tranquility against the bright, neutral backdrop of white walls. Milena’s design philosophy harmonizes French elegance with ethnic charm. Crystal chandeliers and intricate mirrors bring Parisian sophistication, while artisanal touches—vases, handheld fans and organic textures—add warmth and personality. In the bedroom, a 150cm-wide double bed ensures comfort without clutter. Its connection to the living room enhances the sense of openness, making the apartment feel larger. Overall, the design combines the simplicity of Greek interiors with French and global elements, creating a space both practical and elegantly distinctive in the short-term rental market.
