MPNYC Architects unveil new Maison Bardot blenging Cycladic design with contemporary art

A year after Bardot’s striking debut, the creators introduce Maison Bardot, an interdisciplinary gallery that extends Bardot’s modern Cycladic design across the street. MPNYC architects transformed a plain 90s storefront, turning familiar exterior features inside out to create an unconventional cultural space. The gallery’s curved walls and ridged stucco create a unique visual effect, while terra cotta tiles add warmth and texture, seamlessly transitioning from the floor into podiums and walls for displaying art. A free-standing partition divides the space, leading visitors to a hidden rear gallery with a view of a wild garden, all bathed in soft, even light from an oversized lightbox. Maison Bardot’s inaugural collaboration with Antiqua, an Athens-based antiquarian, showcases mid-century furniture and objects by designers like Ettore Sottsass and Gaetano Pesce, engaging in a dialogue with the minimalist Cycladic space. Together, Bardot and Maison Bardot embrace responsible development in Antiparos, integrating traditional techniques and lively outdoor seating to create a vibrant gathering place for locals and visitors. This new cultural hub celebrates the island’s heritage while embracing contemporary art and design, fostering a lively community spirit.
