OOAK architects design new showroom and office space in Kolonaki, Athens for Myran design shop

Housed in an iconic Art Deco building -a brilliant example of the ‘Streamline Moderne’ movement- Apenanti is the new home of Scandinavian design shop Myran. Designed by OOAK architects in collaboration with Myran’s owners, the set-up allows founders to assemble and showcase their carefully-curated collection of design objects and furniture in a residential-style setting. The Palaiologos apartment building was originally designed back in 1935 by architect Ioannis Koukiadis, featuring smooth symmetrical shapes, horizontal lines, and sharp curves.

Centered around inspiration, dialogue, and consultation, the space was conceived as a series of real rooms that are common in a private apartment. Decorative elements of the building are combined with a bold palette that creates an immersive environment while celebrating the architectural details and enhancing the furniture on display. Color is applied differently in each room, always with a focus on elevating three distinct heights and scales. The showroom is meant to inspire, and just like the furniture, color as a final layer of the finished surface helps set the space’s tone, mood, and energy. Apenanti shows how classic modern and contemporary Scandinavian design can be applied in a quintessentially Athenian apartment, adapting to, and creating a new Greek-Scandi living experience that combines functionality and simplicity without sacrificing playfulness.
