This series of photos by Nikos Vavdinoudis depicts the distillation of tsipouro – the Greek traditional pomace brandy – in a family distillery in Halkidiki, Northern Greece. The business was first operated by the grandfather of the distillery’s current owner, who began making and selling tsipouro in 1940. The family tradition has been handed down from father to son, each generation taking on the business with the same enthusiasm and passion as the one before. “Our tsipouro is distilled using the grapes of small vineyards from the surrounding region. We all gather each October around the steel tanks and enjoy the process, with food, drinks and music. What makes our tsipouro special is its quality; it’s made exclusively from organic grapes, grown without the use of fertilizers, the main ingredient being our own passion and commitment to our product”.
