Koukoumi Vegan Hotel in Mykonos, Greece

Koukoumi Vegan Hotel – a 5-star award-winning hotel, is a project of the Kontiza family of Mykonos and its very existence was inspired by the traditional Myconian architecture and by the ideals of Kallos (Beauty), Philoxenia (hospitality) & Compassion not only towards animals but also to ourselves.

The vision of the family was to bring a breath of fresh air in hospitality, to show a more intimate side of the island, and promote a new life philosophy without harming animals, the environment, or ourselves, concerning the principles of authenticity, simplicity, and balance. The name of the Hotel “Koukoumi” in the Myconian dialect means a warm, snuggling place, protected from the wind. The driving force for seeding the routes of this peaceful sanctuary derives from the love of the Kontiza family for the island, the mixture of its natural beauty and uniqueness along with its breeze and crystal-clear waters. The vegan philosophy expresses what they feel for Mykonos: to enjoy life with respect towards nature, the animals, and to ourselves maintaining at the same time good health, wellness, and embracing simplicity in our lives. Born and raised in Ano Mera the family’s traditional house lies next to Koukoumi Vegan Boutique Hotel, as a reminder of their values, such as simplicity, fairness, and philoxenia, by which they were raised. The family’s memories at Mykonos Island have a taste of thyme and saltiness. These simple yet vivid images are the ones, the family wants to introduce to the world – a side of Mykonos that few have met. This is how Koukoumi came to life. And here the “wind blows differently” as the family states.

The moment guests arrive at Koukoumi Vegan Hotel, they find themselves in a natural place, where each of them can taste what the alternative way of life feels like. Guests leave their worries behind and enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience based on harmony and healthy choices. The hotel restaurant offers a completely vegan menu and promises that its delicious recipes will challenge you to reconsider everything you believed about food before! The Vegan chef Angeliki Charami presents her signature creations. The vegan cuisine is characterized by ethnic flavors coupled with a strong Greek tang. The ingredients used have undergone little or no processing, while the vegetables are always freshly provided by trusted suppliers. For Koukoumi’s raw recipes 100% organic ingredients are used. Everything is prepared with minimal processing in mind, while great importance is given to raw materials and waste reduction. The menu comprises exclusively vegan and raw food recipes. In the breakfast buffet, everything is handmade (bread, cakes, omelets, pancakes, pies, cookies, etc.) and meals include a variety of signature dishes as sushi, doublings, steak seitan, soups, salads, fresh pasta, vegan burgers & pizza, and desserts such as hot lava souffle, homemade ice-cream, etc.  All the food served is handmade, of high quality with minimum processing, while all vegetables used are fresh from trusted suppliers. In addition, Koukoumi Vegan Hotel has started a collaboration with oenologist Chrysa Yatra Batzi, MSc O.I.V. Paris, who created for Koukoumi the first and only Certified Vegan Wine List in Europe with organic selections mainly from Greek and European producers.

Of course, all these are not limited to Koukoumi Vegan Hotel’s Cuisine. The same philosophy is embraced by all 14 boho-chic suites; all furniture, mattresses, and pillows have been carefully selected to derive from natural products and material whereas all elements of the hotel are environmentally friendly and promote sustainable practices and recycling (COCO-MAT vegan mattresses, solar water heaters, magnesium pool, drainage water treatment that provides water to the hotel’s garden). From soy candles, bamboo toothbrushes, certified eco-friendly detergents for the cleaning of the rooms & clothes to biodegradable bathing caps and recycled paper, all elements of the hotel are 100% cruelty-free. No dairy products, honey, leather, or even feathers can be found at Koukoumi Vegan Boutique Hotel.

In addition to that, Koukoumi Hotel is 100% wheelchair accessible. Koukoumi Vegan Boutique Hotel aims to become a shelter for those who want to escape, relax and leave stress behind. For that reason, a Vegan Spa has been created: A “heaven of relaxation” in which guests can detox, de-stress and rejuvenate with soothing massages, healing treatments for the face and body, or by using the sauna. All spa products are vegan, 100% natural, produced in Greece by essential oils. They are not tested on animals; they do not contain any synthetic preservatives and have recyclable packaging. With respect to the principles of a balanced and healthy way of life, Koukoumi Hotel has an indoor ergonomically designed fitness center, staffed by a personal trainer and sports nutrition advisor who can tailor cross-functional training programs. With the help of elastic bands, balls, or weights guests develop their own specific physical fitness programs and wellness goals. Group programs (stretching, pilates) are offered as well as outdoor activities like running in the countryside and beach training. In addition to that, Koukoumi hotel offers specialized yoga lessons (Ashtanga and Hatha) with the help and guidance of a yoga master. The yoga lessons can take place either indoors or outdoors in nature.
